Gramatica:
Al pasar de estilo directo (direct statements) a estilo indirecto (reported statements) cambia la conjugación del verbo, se pasa de infinitivo a pasado simple.
Cuando nos encontramos con un estilo directo que ya está en pasado simple, tenemos que convertirlo a estilo indirecto con un pasado con had o have.

"I sometimes drink coffee". She said. | She said that she sometimes drank coffee. |
"I like shopping". He said. | He said that he liked shopping. |
"I passed the exam". He said. | He said that he had passed the exam. |
"I can't come". He said. | He said that he couldn't come. |

Para pasar de preguntas directas (direct speech) a preguntas indirectas (reported questions) cambia la conjugación del verbo, se pasa de infinitivo a pasado simple.
Cuando nos encontramos con una pregunta directa que ya está en pasado simple, tenemos que convertirlo a estilo indirecto con un pasado con had, have.
