Reported speech: statements / questions

El estilo indirecto o reported speech es una estructura que se emplea cuando queremos decir o hacer mención sobre algo que alguien ha dicho previamente.
Vocabulario:
  • Statements: declaraciones.
  • Questions: preguntas. 

Gramatica:
Al pasar de estilo directo (direct statements) a estilo indirecto (reported statements) cambia la conjugación del verbo, se pasa de infinitivo a pasado simple.
Cuando nos encontramos con un estilo directo que ya está en pasado simple, tenemos que convertirlo a estilo indirecto con un pasado con had o have.

"I sometimes drink coffee". She said.

She said that she sometimes drank coffee.
"I like shopping". He said.

He said that he liked shopping.

"I passed the exam". He said.

He said that he had passed the exam.

"I can't come". He said.

He said that he couldn't come.

"We may be late". They said.

They said that they might be late.


Para pasar de preguntas directas (direct speech) a preguntas indirectas (reported questions) cambia la conjugación del verbo, se pasa de infinitivo a pasado simple.
Cuando nos encontramos con una pregunta directa que ya está en pasado simple, tenemos que convertirlo a estilo indirecto con un pasado con had, have.

He asked she if she was married.
"What is your name?". I asked he.

I asked him what his name was.

"I passed the exam?".
He asked.

He asked me if he had passed the exam.

"Did she phone?".
He asked.

He asked me whether she had phoned.

"Where do yo you live?".
They asked.

They asked me where I lived.
